GSE & Aircraft Maintenance

The aviation industry is faced with the task of reliably protecting sensitive components and materials from damage – especially during the loading and unloading of aircrafts. This is where our safety solutions come into play: they offer precise protection for pressure-sensitive components and reliably prevent damage during the handling process. It goes without saying that our products meet the high safety requirements of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and thus contribute to operational safety in air traffic.

Ground Support Equipment

To meet the increasing safety and efficiency requirements in ground-based aviation operations, ASO has developed an innovative anti-collision system – as a flexible retrofit solution for almost all types of ground support equipment (GSE). The system has a modular design and combines tactile and non-contact sensor technology. It therefore not only meets the highest technical standards, but also complies with the current IATA recommendations for preventing damage to aircraft by ground vehicles.
At the heart of the system are pressure-sensitive SENTIR safety contact bumpers, which react at the first physical contact between a GSE vehicle and an aircraft. They immediately trigger a signal that intervenes directly in the vehicle control system – for example, for emergency shutdown or to activate the braking process. This not only cushions the impact, but also controls the remaining braking distance to reliably prevent damage to the aircraft. For levelling out height differences of moving vehicles, we have developed the SENTIR safety foot. The sensor maintains the clearance of moving objects when the height changes and is therefore often used to secure aircraft gangways to the aircraft.

Aircraft Maintenance

Automated mobile maintenance platforms, racks and scissor lifts must be equipped with safety sensors, just like the ground support equipment. SENTIR safety contact bumpers and safety contact edges ensure a safe and damage-free approach to the aircraft. Contact with the soft surface of an active safety contact edge or contact bumper triggers an electrical stop and a possible reversal of the maintenance device. The remaining overtravel of the SENTIR safety contact edges or bumpers dampens the momentum of the maintenance vehicle and thus prevents damage to the aircraft. Our SENTIR safety contact mats also enable presence detection on scissor lifts and other vehicles.
